ERLUS has been producing roof tiles in Ergoldsbach in Lower Bavaria since 1842. In 1904, the company became a stock corporation with sites in Regensburg and Speyer am Rhein, and in the 1960s it acquired further brickworks in Ludwigsburg near Stuttgart. Brickworks acquired. The company name ERLUS is derived from the initial syllables of the locations. 1/5 of all German roof tiles come from the ERLUS plants, including the plant in Teistungen, Thuringia. Production focuses exclusively on ceramic, acid and alkali-resistant roof tiles for hard roofing of the highest quality.
The Karat roof tile has been an icon in the ERLUS range since 1970. After 55 years, it has now undergone a necessary modernization to the latest technical standards and has been completely redesigned with the same appearance on the roof. New features include triple ring interlocking and an interlocking 4-tile corner. This 4-tile corner turned out to be a serious challenge for the colleagues from the ceramics department - it borders on fine ceramics - but provides enormous protection against storm-lashed rain and backwater, not only on the front side but also on the rear side, which is also interlocked. The rebates interlock in such a way that the drip edges can also be traced on the rear side. This provides safety, especially with long chip lengths.
In terms of design, the KARAT RS has always been unique and has not yet been imitated by its competitors. It is particularly interesting because, for example, the horizontal is emphasized with the Level RS tile, but the KARAT forms a flat, smooth roof consisting of vertical strips that imitate the flow of water. PV systems, for example, must not have any cut-out seams, as the rain resistance and function of a roof must not be impaired by built-in components. As with all other tile models, the KARAT is of course available with the relevant solar supports so that structures such as PV systems can be neatly integrated into the roof without having to forego the benefits of non-combustible hard roofing underneath technical power systems.
It is uncertain where the trend for new buildings and roofs is heading. What can be estimated at the moment is that roof pitches are becoming increasingly shallower. ERLUS is responding to this with special tile models. Spacing and plots are becoming increasingly smaller. Flat roofs as a direct construction still have a high potential for damage; it is easier to drain water away from a house with a sloping surface, even if it only has a slight pitch.
As a purely natural building material, brick can be recycled after its service life, which can be up to 150 years. The ceramic building material opens up many possibilities in this process. For example, it can be used to make bricks and clinker bricks in a sister company, it can be used in road construction or as a surface for tennis courts. The purely mineral, single-component natural building material is perfectly in line with the ecological cycle. Apart from its recyclability, ERLUS offers an extremely long replacement guarantee for all roof tiles. Roof tiles are durable, but if storms or other influences make replacement necessary, replacement should be reliably guaranteed. This is why ERLUS not only offers a product guarantee of up to 30 years, but also a 20-year replacement guarantee.
