BMI stands for Dachentdecker. Mr. Christian Sack from the BMI Group explains this to us at the Haus+Holz 2024 trade fair in Stuttgart. The BMI Group brands include BRAAS, the company known for roofs for 70 years, the company VEDAG with 170 years of experience, the familiar brands Wolfin and icopal and the company Klöber with product solutions for pitched and flat roofs. BMI combines the expertise of pitched roofs (BRAAS) and the other flat roof brands.
The motto of the trade fair presentation is "discover your roof". There are many ways to use and design your roof: greening, drainage, combination options, solar - everything will be presented at the BMI stand. Greening a pitched roof is always a major challenge. Who wouldn't want to use their roof as an oasis for insects, as a natural source of evaporation, as cooling for the surroundings and as a green visual eye-catcher? BMI makes it possible with a normal Frankfurt pan, which has been used for roof coverings for more than 70 years. The company has simply integrated the green into the roof tile. It is very easy to install, just like a Frankfurt tile, and the roofer can install it individually on the roof as usual.
In the run-up to development, BMI naturally made calculations for wind draft and humidity. The ingeniously simple, highly functional product is sure to appeal to many customers. The substructure remains the same, the Flora Frankfurt roof tile is simply fitted in place of a standard Frankfurt tile. The service life of the support tile is just as long as that of the tried and tested product and does not suffer from wear and tear. The planting itself should of course be checked from time to time; the green inlay is not created by BMI itself, but by competent partners. It should be long-lasting and presentable.
BMI is not yet able to offer this solution in combination for pitched roofs. Here, the customer is faced with the decision between a green roof and a solar roof. The situation is different for flat roofs. Both can be combined here: Elevated solar panels rise above a flat green roof at a height that allows enough sunlight to reach the vegetation in the green area. For the BMI Group, the combination of green and solar roofs is a major sustainable concern for the benefit of the environment.
