Citizen, one of the world's largest watch and movement manufacturers, will be represented at Inhorgenta 2024 in Munich with its European headquarters in Hamburg. The headquarters of the Citizen Group is located in Tokyo, while the European headquarters with the Citizen and Bulova brands has been based in Hamburg since 1969. For this year's 100th anniversary, the Group is introducing a higher price segment with "The Citizen" brand. The audience at Inhorgenta 2024 can look forward to the presentation of this great new brand.
Citizen introduced the Tsuyosa Collection two years ago in the summer. It stands out with its summery, brightly colored dial and mechanical movement. As is well known, Citizen stands for Eco-Drive using a light drive. However, the origins of the watch manufacturer lie in mechanics, as with the pocket watch launched in 1924, to which the brand name Citizen is also owed. The Tsuyosa model is therefore a bit "back to the roots". On the occasion of Inhorgenta, 4 new models of the well-known caliber were launched, one with a cimon (copper) colored dial, one in green camouflage, one in orange and one in mauve. Retail partners can pre-order these models exclusively at Inhorgenta. The official launch is scheduled for April 2024.
The success of the Tsuyosa overtook the company in the best sense of the word. The collection was actually launched in the summer of 2022, and Citizen fans around the world immediately jumped at the bright colors, a fact as well as an incredible success, which the company likes to emphasize. It is not a matter of course for customers to acquire different dial variants in such a short space of time. For Citizen collectors, it is not necessarily the collector's value of the watch that is decisive for this model, but rather the fan appeal - in this respect, a particular pleasure for the company. At a price of €299, the Tsuyosa with sapphire crystal, glass back and mechanical movement offers very good value for money.
With 2024, this model series gains an extension. The newly installed 8322 movement has a 60-hour power reserve, which is reflected in the retail price of €350 for the leather strap version and €379 for the stainless steel version. The design of this line is based on the Art Deco dominated 1920s/1930s, which is reflected in the beautiful patterns on the dials.
The exhibition stand at Citizen's European headquarters in Hamburg is presenting another highlight with the luxury brand "The Citizen". It is to be launched in Europe on the occasion of Citizen's 100th anniversary. Inhorgenta is the perfect place to present this brand to partners in Europe for the first time. The brand itself has already been available on the Japanese market for 30 years, when it was presented and launched on the occasion of the company's 65th anniversary. Now Citizen is venturing into Europe. With a small range of this luxury watch, the European headquarters would like to capture the initial mood on the market and, of course, inspire the partners.
In "The Citizen" line, the customer can choose from 3 different movements: The caliber 0100 has an Ecodrive movement in which the quartz has been redesigned; the rate deviation over the year is only 1 second. The caliber 0200 or 0210 stands for the middle range, the mechanical movement was developed in cooperation with the Swiss manufacturer La Joux-Perret, which makes Citizen very proud. Citizen also sets itself apart from its competitors with 25 watchmakers based in Nagano, all of whom are women. According to Japanese tradition and understanding, women are best suited to carry out such high-precision and complicated manufacturing techniques over a long period of time. Although this attitude is historically conditioned, it is still a nice story.
The 3 categories of "The Citizen" luxury watch vary in price depending on the features and materials. Stainless steel, titanium, washi paper for the dials, etc. all play a role in the pricing. Ecodrive models start at 3500 euros, watches with mechanical movements cost 8500 to 9,000 euros.
