Tabita Pietsch: Photography as a Medium for Artistic Expression

Tabita Pietsch creates artistic photographs and provides very interesting insights into her work at ARTMUC 2024. The Bucharest-born artist has been photographing professionally for around 12 years. Her first works were almost exclusively portraits, but she now enjoys photographing landscapes, the fascination of which she finds particularly fascinating when traveling. She photographed the "Modern Paradise" series in Palm Springs, which is undoubtedly a highlight of her exhibition. The pictures capture the architecture, the flora and the surrounding nature of the location in equal measure; with their bright, sometimes almost glistening tones, they are enchantingly beautiful and sometimes even surreal.

Limited edition prints on watercolor paper - the look of real paintings

Tabita Pietsch is very strict in the selection of her works. She has undoubtedly taken countless photos in Palm Springs and other places, but she brought a maximum of five to six from each series to ARTMUC 2024. These are also limited editions and therefore not only of artistic value, but also of commercial value. They are printed on watercolor paper, which gives them the appearance of real paintings. The original intention of the photographer, who views her world through the lens, is thus artistically heightened once again. At first glance, a large-format picture by Tabita Pietsch doesn't look like a photograph at all. Some painters work photorealistically - the photographer Pietsch, it seems, takes the opposite approach and gives her photographs the appearance of a painted picture.

Artist Tabita Pietsch often draws inspiration from walks

The artist often draws her inspiration from walks. In Palm Springs, she was immediately fascinated by the lightness and the light that gives all colors a special meaning. Her sessions are not always planned: her first trip to Palm Springs followed an exhibition in L.A. rather by chance. She instantly fell in love with this place of peace and light, of flat villas and towering palm trees, took a few pictures and visited the location again six months later to fill her portfolio with photos of Palm Springs. Each individual work in the "Modern Paradise" series is available exactly 50 times. With frame it costs 590 euros - an increase in value is not ruled out, but on the contrary is to be expected.

Photo series with motifs from Palm Springs to Jordan

Tabita Pietsch shot another series in Jordan. There, together with her husband, she recreated a costumed Superman scene in the middle of the desert. The astonishing result looks like something from another planet. Like all artists, the photographer is constantly making new plans. One of her next trips will take her back to Los Angeles, as the City of Angels is a fabulous treasure trove for visuality in all its facets. Tokyo is also at the top of Tabita Pietsch's agenda.
