Figurative art made from upcycled materials - Karin Gerwien
Karin Gerwien describes her artistic approach as socially critical and thoroughly political. Her works are intended to make changes visible, but also to reveal possibilities for adaptation. In the video, she shows two examples of her art. Under the title "No Risk, No Fun", she has combined various objects with each other that would not normally be found together in their original meaning. By adding what she calls a "crazy cockatoo", she has once again taken up her nature theme, which runs like a common thread through her artworks.
Another example is a dream catcher made from different bed threads in combination with a sloth. Under the title "Hold on to your Dreams", she has once again combined different materials. Like all her figures, she has also modeled the sloth and used different designs. In this case, she used a carpet to create the sloth's skin and fur. Each of her sculptures is the result of intensive study and the combination of different, sometimes unusual materials. Karin Gerwien does not view her materials on the basis of their original meaning. She places them in a new context and thus subliminally draws attention to the issue of environmental protection.
