The Bernhard family winery in Wolfsheim is located on the border region between Nahe and Rheinhessen. This combines the advantages of both viticulture regions for the 27-hectare Bernhard winery. Only organic and biodynamic methods are used in the vineyard.
The young winemaker Martina Bernhard inspires visitors to her stand with her commitment to her passion for winegrowing with nature. She sees it as her duty to protect and restore what nature has to offer - the wonderful hilly landscape, the great soils, the wonderful ecosystem that nature provides. She wants to transfer all of this into a glass of wine and thus transport and present her little piece of home. Martina Bernhard and her father live out the diversity of Rheinhessen with their grape varieties. They are extremely creative and always want to try something new. For this reason, the winery has a whole range of grape varieties in its portfolio. There is one favorite grape variety: Silvaner. A lot can be done with Silvaner, yet it never loses its signature style, from which you can really taste the homeland.
The Bernhards' 2024 highlight is natural wine, which they are presenting for the very first time. One is a Gewürztraminer from their great-grandparents' vineyard. There are only a few vines left, it is a project close to their hearts. Secondly, Weingut Bernhard is presenting a limited edition Chardonnay, bottled from a really tasty barrel. Chardonnay is Martina Bernhard's grandmother's favorite grape variety; the grape variety is usually somewhat neglected, as a lot of work is done with Silvaner and Riesling. The Chardonnay bottling is therefore a tribute to her grandmother.
Organic wines are the young winemaker's passion project. A winemaker works with nature, so he should protect and preserve it. Martin Bernhard and her father are committed to leaving the ecosystem as natural as possible and extracting as little as possible from nature in order to produce a good product. Under no circumstances do either of them want to interfere with nature in a fatal way.
