Volvo EWR150E battery-powered wheeled excavator: compact, powerful, emission-free

Volvo Construction Equipment presents the new EWR150E, the world's first battery-powered wheeled excavator from an OEM manufacturer. The machine combines a compact design with high energy efficiency - with full performance over a complete working shift. The new digging equipment, the well thought-out weight distribution and the small swing radius demonstrate this: The EWR150E is a consistently developed building block for emission-reduced work in urban areas.

First all-electric wheeled excavator solution from Volvo

With the EWR150E, Volvo is launching its first fully battery-electric wheeled excavator - and setting a benchmark in the industry. The machine adopts all the specifications and dimensions of the conventional diesel version, including the particularly short rear swing radius. Thanks to the new digging equipment, the front swing radius has also been significantly reduced. The reach of the machine has been increased by up to 40 centimetres thanks to a new boom geometry - depending on the configuration. At the same time, the lifting capacity has been improved by up to 29 percent compared to the previous model.

Eight hours of EWR150E operation on one charge: Focus on energy efficiency

The main development goal was to ensure at least eight hours of pure operation with one battery charge - which, according to the manufacturer, was even exceeded. Instead of focusing exclusively on maximum capacity, the focus was placed on energy efficiency. The EWR150E is charged overnight, which not only ensures low infrastructure requirements, but also has a positive effect on the service life of the batteries. A conventional 32 amp socket with 400 volts is sufficient for charging. Volvo has not yet provided any information on the exact battery capacity.

Flexibility in everyday construction site life - with a view to infrastructure

The EWR150E is particularly suitable for use in urban areas and on construction sites with an existing charging infrastructure. Thanks to its mobility, it can be used flexibly, for example to move quickly between job sites. In remote areas or during the construction of major projects such as freeways, where the power supply poses a challenge, diesel-powered machines will continue to have their place in the future. Nevertheless, the trend is clear: wherever infrastructure is available, the electric drive will play an increasingly important role.

Sophisticated concept: weight distribution and use of installation space

The batteries in the EWR150E are mainly integrated in the rear area, which means that the machine has a slightly higher tare weight - an estimated 300 to 500 kilograms more than the diesel model. However, this additional weight is distributed in such a way that it is hardly noticeable during operation and at the same time has a positive effect on stability as a counterweight. Thanks to the compact design, the machine's maneuverability is fully maintained, which is particularly advantageous on inner-city construction sites.

New digging equipment for greater efficiency in use

One of the most striking new features is the revised digging equipment. Depending on the arm configuration, it allows an increased reach of up to 40 centimetres. At the same time, the boom can be retracted further, resulting in a significantly reduced front swing radius - now less than two meters. This improvement makes working in confined spaces considerably easier. In future, the new equipment will also be used in the diesel versions in order to minimize development costs and exploit synergies.

Conclusion VOLVO EWR150E wheeled excavator

The EWR150E from Volvo is a consistently developed, fully electric wheeled excavator that meets the requirements of modern construction sites with emission-free operation, high flexibility and well thought-out design. Its performance values and the new digging equipment show that electric drive is already a viable alternative in the construction sector today - provided the charging infrastructure is available.
