The two wheel loaders WA475-11 and WA485-11 from Komatsu have been completely redeveloped. In addition to an optimized drive system, the machines are characterized above all by a practical cab design and modern assistance systems. The focus is on a combination of performance, efficiency and user-friendliness.
A key feature of the new wheel loaders is the completely redesigned engine. It has been specially adapted for use with the power-split Komatsu transmission and enables a power development of over 2,000 Newton meters - and that at just 1,100 revolutions per minute. This design ensures powerful, yet particularly economical machine performance. The high level of efficiency helps to significantly reduce fuel consumption without compromising on tractive force - a noticeable advantage in daily use, especially during heavy loading cycles.
The cab of the WA475-11 and WA485-11 was designed based on specific feedback from the European market. A key feature is the newly developed, angle-dependent joystick steering: the movement of the lever is directly related to the steering angle of the device, which enables very fine and intuitive control. This not only makes driving more comfortable, but also less tiring - an important factor when working long shifts.
The new control levers on the right-hand side have also been ergonomically optimized: they are round in shape, equipped with integrated buttons and positioned so that the driver can reach all functions comfortably from the seat. The classic operating concept has been retained, but its handling has been significantly improved.
A central element of the new operating architecture is the optional assistance monitor. It comprises several functions that systematically support everyday work. These include an integrated payload scale with target value function. During the loading process, you can see live on the monitor how much material is already in the bucket. Komatsu relies on an animated display that gives the operator immediate feedback.
Another element is the so-called efficiency trainer: this tool works like a training app. The driver can set individual targets - for example for fuel consumption or cycle duration - and receives tips on how to optimize their work behaviour. The targets do not come from the machine, but from the driver themselves, which ensures a high level of acceptance.
Komatsu has divided the information into two displays for a clear and concise presentation: The machine monitor shows all technical operating data, while the assistance monitor only displays operator-related systems. This separation makes it possible to work without information overload. The system is supplemented by additional modules such as tire pressure monitoring or a high-resolution reversing camera - both directly integrated into the monitor system.
Both the WA475-11 and the WA485-11 are produced at the Komatsu plant in Hanover. Production in Germany not only stands for quality and reliability, but also allows precise adaptation to the requirements of the European market. At the same time, there are no long supply chains - a strategic advantage in terms of availability and sustainability.
