Miniature worlds in the field of model making have been the specialty of the Faller company from the Black Forest for over 70 years. The company produces injection-molded models, primarily model houses. The main area of application is model railroads. Another mainstay of the company is in the electronics sector, where not only trains but also cars run on the model railroads.
Mr. Reinbold will be presenting the MS Österreich, a historic Lake Constance ship that ploughs through the tableau of a model railroad on a scale of 1:160, i.e. N gauge, integrated into a romantic-looking ensemble with other innovations. The ensemble is designed as a kit and can be integrated into the existing layout after assembly at home. This special kit costs 85 euros, a relatively high entry price for Faller, which is justified by the cost of the tools and the fact that the ship is a novelty. The inspiration for this scenario came from the Austrian Museum Association. Other kits were also often the result of suggestions from dedicated Faller customers.
The vehicles on the panels are set in motion using ultrasonic positioning. Traffic can be controlled in this way and monitored on a display to ensure that everything runs smoothly. The vehicles are located via an ultrasonic satellite, the vehicles emit an ultrasonic signal and the location data is projected onto the surface via the PC. The vehicles are controlled via this localization. In principle, like autonomous driving, but embedded in a miniature world. At Faller, not only the railroads move, but also the cars.
