Ispo, the International Trade Fair for Sporting Goods and Sports Fashion, has been held in Munich since 1970. It is the global platform for the industry, a driver of innovation and a meeting place for sports business professionals from all over the world. Over the years, Ispo has been restructured time and again and has expanded continuously, constantly incorporating new sports sectors and trends and accommodating the booming health and fitness market, among others.
The main topics from 5-8 February 2017 were "Women in sport" and the increasing digitalization in the industry. The topic of sports fashion was presented in several exhibition areas, wearable technology in the form of fitness trackers and sports watches as well as smartwear in general took up a lot of space. There were also innovations in virtual reality: the simulation of ski runs, goggles that compensate for visual conditions and interactive squash were on offer from some manufacturers. Devices for fun sports such as balance boards, stand-up paddles and slacklines were also in demand.
For the first time, there was a dedicated stand on the topic of sustainability in the exhibition halls at Ispo 2017. The aim was to promote the awareness of practicing sport in all its facets with ecological and social responsibility. Some fashion companies are focusing on recycling, while Gore-Tex announced that it will no longer use chemicals in production by 2023. Messe München also named the careful use of natural resources at sporting events as one of the goals of sustainability in sport. The "Eco Responsibility Award" was presented in three categories at the Ispo Awards 2017.
85,000 trade visitors made the pilgrimage to Ispo 2017 to find out about the products on offer from 2732 exhibitors. They were joined by 170 bloggers and influencers, whose role in sales success should not be underestimated. Elaborate fashion shows and, last but not least, celebrities to touch from a wide range of sports sectors delighted the audience. The Ispo Academy once again scored points with a highly qualified, interesting lecture program, with which a lot of know-how was transferred.
It is difficult to do justice to the wealth of input at Ispo 2017. Nevertheless, the Messe.TV team has endeavored to capture as broad a cross-section as possible of the range of sportswear, sports equipment, skis and accessories, sports watches, drinking bottles and thermal tents through to product photography in the trade fair videos and to hold informative and interesting discussions with numerous exhibitors.
