In the office or at home, tablets are usually treated like a raw egg - in industry, the conditions are much tougher. The exhibitor ADS Tec offers solutions for use with its industrial computing products. Robust industrial tablets and PCs for use in logistics and other industrial sectors. Find out more about the advantages and areas of application in our trade fair TV!
ads-tec is a traditional Swabian company, but it is exclusively concerned with the future. They manufacture computers. And when you find out what you can do with these computers, remember "Don't try this at home!" - Never try this with your own PC! Klas Bömecke: Well, Mr. Baumeister, when you hold your tablet in your hand, you notice something! Manfred Baumeister: That's right. But of course you're not holding a standard tablet, you're holding a tablet for rugged use, which is a fully-fledged PC, so you can also run standard applications under Windows. As you can see, it is ultimately a relatively large work surface. You also have two rechargeable batteries here, so you can also work in multi-shift operation - so you are not limited in terms of usage time. You can now charge this battery and continue working with the second battery. As you can see, the device works perfectly despite the battery being removed. Now you can put the fully charged battery back in and continue working as normal. Can also be dropped...
Klas Bömecke: I was just about to ask, it's completely encased here in relatively soft plastic. You can certainly bump into it somewhere... Manfred Baumeister: There are limits, of course, as with any device, but it is specially designed to be robust so that it can be used in warehouses or high-bay warehouses. Klas Bömecke: Is it specially developed for this or what are the areas of application? Manfred Baumeister: Well, logistics is of course one of the main applications. There are also many other applications in large production facilities - in manufacturing technology, for example, or in the automotive industry. Klas Bömecke: Is this TabX a new product? Manfred Baumeister: The tablet is something new, that's true. But we've been working in this field for a relatively long time and have been using the predecessor model for several years, which means that there are already several thousand in the field that work and the experience we've gained from this has of course now been incorporated into this product - you can tell from the relatively large number of improvements that the device has. Klas Bömecke: You have a lot of experience in installing computers in vehicles. Under the highest loads! I think we can take a look at that over there. Let's do it!
Klas Bömecke: VMT - Vehicle Mounted Terminal. Does that mean I can find these devices on the forklift truck? Manfred Baumeister: Yes, that's right. You can also see the attachment below, as it is typically intended for a forklift truck. Klas Bömecke: I mean, a forklift truck like this sometimes drives out into the rain or into a cold store, it brakes or drives over a hump, which means there are bumps. These are all things that computers don't really like. Manfred Baumeister: Yes, you're right, especially the vibrations and bumps come from the ground, of course. Klas Bömecke: How do you solve that? Manfred Baumeister: We solder instead of just plugging. They must also not have any moving parts inside, no fans or hard disks or anything like that. Klas Bömecke: Of course there are hard disks that no longer need to rotate, even in normal computers. But what do you do with the ventilation? Manfred Baumeister: Ultimately, you have to work with a passive cooling concept. You have to dissipate the heat generated by a standard processor, which is transferred to the housing, which is normally die-cast aluminum, and from there into the environment. Klas Bömecke: The heat goes out via the housing? Manfred Baumeister: The heat is dissipated via the housing, and there are special connection techniques that are used.
Klas Bömecke: Now you have a total of four different sizes here, where is something this big used? That's a huge screen that won't fit in a forklift truck... Manfred Baumeister: You're more likely to find it on large equipment. For example, on crane trucks or agricultural vehicles, such as combine harvesters or tractors, where you simply have more space than in a normal forklift truck. Klas Bömecke: That means you actually offer solutions for many sectors. Manfred Baumeister: That's right. Logistics is just one industry where you can use something like this. Basically, you can use something like this on any vehicle. Klas Bömecke: One special feature of your terminals is the five buttons down here. Manfred Baumeister: Yes, that's right. That's also something like ads-tec's distinguishing mark. Older generations of our devices also have these five function keys. These are keys that allow you to work with this device like on a conventional PC. So you have a soft keyboard here, for example, or you have a right mouse button at your disposal. Klas Bömecke: I think it's a very impressive technology. Thank you very much, Mr. Baumeister, for giving me an insight. Manfred Baumeister: Yes, with pleasure. Klas Bömecke: Have a nice trade fair. Manfred Baumeister: Thank you. Likewise.
