The EUROBIKE trade fair in Frankfurt
EUROBIKE 2024 in Frankfurt am Main marks an important meeting point for the global bicycle industry, where manufacturers, dealers and bicycle enthusiasts can experience the latest trends and innovations in the world of bicycles. From July 3-7, this trade fair will serve as a platform for the presentation of new bicycle models, accessories and technologies, as well as for the exchange of ideas on future-oriented mobility solutions and sustainable transport concepts.
Bicycle knowledge: What types of bicycles are there?
There are many different types of bikes designed for different purposes and types of terrain. Here are some of the most common types: City bike/Urban bike: For urban traffic, often equipped with luggage rack, mudguards and lights. Area of use: short distances, commuting in the city. Mountain bike (MTB): Robust construction, wide tires with a coarse profile and suspension on the front and/or rear wheel. Area of use: Off-road terrain, mountain and forest trails. Road bike: Lightweight construction, narrow tires, aerodynamic position. Area of use: asphalt roads, races, long distances. Trekking bike: A mixture of mountain bike and city bike, often with pannier rack and mudguards. Area of use: Longer tours, also on unpaved paths. Gravel bike: Similar to a road bike, but with wider tires and a more stable design. Area of use: Mixed surfaces, gravel paths, easy trails. Fatbike: Very wide tires for better grip on snow and sand. Area of use: Snow, sand, extremely uneven terrain. E-bike/Pedelec: With electric motor to assist with pedalling. Area of use: Everyday rides, longer distances, hills. Folding bike: Compact design, can be folded up. Area of use: Commuting, combined journeys with public transport. Cargo bike: Specially designed for transporting loads or children, often with a large loading area at the front or rear. Area of use: shopping, transporting children, deliveries. Lieger bike: Reclining seating position, less air resistance. Area of use: Long distances, comfort rides. BMX: Small, robust, for tricks and jumps. Area of use: BMX courses, tricks, stunts. Cyclocross bike: Similar to a road bike, but optimized for off-road racing. Area of use: Cyclocross racing, mixed terrain. Each of these bike types has special features that make them particularly suitable for certain applications and types of terrain.
